There were several examples in the links and textbook, but I know it might still be hard to understand exactly what I'm looking for. So here are a few more ideas:
- Take a group shot of some of your friends/family
- Keep them posing for you
- Take a look at them... do you see anything interesting such as your friends wild shoes? Then get closer and take a picture of those shoes
- Step back, take another look... maybe one of your friend's smile is just brilliant. Get closer and take a photo of that smile
- And so on
Another example:
- Find a big tree and take a photo of it
- Now step back and take a look... do you see anything else? Anything like a house, a person, a field showing through the limbs/leaves of the tree? Take a picture of that.
- What about the trunk of the tree? Any unique markings like the 'eye of God' on the Vancouver carpentry example? Take a picture.
What this exercise is trying to get you to do is look for 'more' than the normal shot.
Everyone can take a photo of a group of friends...which is good. But what else is in there? Look for it.
By Tuesday of next week, I simply want you to e-mail me with a description of some of the shots your took. We will work on uploading to Flickr after that.
Also, if you still don't understand, please e-mail me and we will either meet or visit on the phone. Don't ever feel intimidated to ask me a question.
So now... just go take photos. I'm not going to give you a bad grade if they are not 'textbook' photos. We are just starting this process. It will get easier... I promise.
