GETTING STARTED
First of all, all assignments for this class will be posted on this blog.
Please get in the habit of checking this blog for new assignments every Monday.
If you have questions regarding any assignment, please email me at mindy.holder@sccc.edu or stop by my office in the business division.
We will be taking photos as directed in the weekly assignments. These photos can be taken with any type of camera - cell phone, point and shoot, or DSLR. We are not concerned with the 'quality' of the photo in this class, only the creativity used in composing the shot.
The goal is to get you to start seeing things differently so you can take more creative shots.
We will utilize tips and tricks from other photographers to help us get a better and more creative photo. Again, we will NOT worry about lighting, focus, etc…..just on composition.
The following are some great links to articles about Photo Composition:

Assignment #1 – Read the information presented in the above two links.
Again, photo composition is the main focus in the course. You can’t be successful in this course if you hold back, if you don’t try to have fun with your photos, and if you can’t set you ‘perfectionist’ characteristics aside.
Don’t be afraid to look for the ‘money’ shot…something different than everyone else takes.
Also, keep in mind that it might take a couple of lessons to really start feeling like you are taking better photos… and that’s ok..
Feel free to let me know if you start to struggle with any of the assignments. It is important to not fall behind.
Assignment #2 – Go take a photo of anything… preferably your favorite thing to photograph. Now take a look at the photo and try to imagine what would make the photo better. There are not right of wrong answers so don’t hold back. Now send me an email with the photo as an attachment and your ideas about could have made the photo better.
